A brief history of our school
Brampton-Georgetown Montessori School
1972 - 1980 Humble Beginnings
Our school’s history begins here, in a small church basement in Brampton’s Peel Village. The founders and first owners, the Shine family, were strong believers in the Montessori approach and created Brampton Montessori School with the vision of a small, intimate school setting got the greater Brampton population.
1980 – 2000 Our Current Home
As the school grew, it was clear that a new home was needed; one that would provide more space for the children, allow us to have our own home, and yet maintain the intimate community feeling that only comes with a smaller school setting. A perfect fit was found at 1030 Queen Street West. The site has roots that go back to 1874, and was the original schoolhouse for the Chinguacousy Township S.S No.5.
2000 – 2007 Welcoming our Georgetown Community
In 2000, the Shine family grew the school one more and ventured into the Georgetown community, opening a Casa space for local families. The Georgetown location came under the umbrella of the Brampton school and as such, the school name was changed to recognize the new campus. At the time, the new school name of Brampton-Georgetown Montessori School was adopted and is used until this day. Although, the Georgetown location is no longer active, it still remains as a strong part of our history.
2007 – Present Day A New Era
The school has grown steadily under the direction of the Shine family, however, it was time for a new era to begin. In 2007, Chandra Kalloo, a current Casa teacher at the school, purchased the school from the Shine family upon their retirement and took over as Head of School. Under Mrs. Kalloo’s direction, much needed and extensive renovations to the school have taken place. These have been pleated while keeping the integrity of the original country schoolhouse. Beginning in 2012, we welcome the newest program of Brampton-Georgetown Montessori school; the Toddler Program. At the time, we are proud to celebrate our 40th anniversary of providing quality Montessori education.
